If you keep chickens for companionship, eggs, or even meat, you may have noticed that they’re not exactly finicky eaters. So during the growing season, why not try tossing some of your lawn clippings into the chicken coop?

Any parts of green vegetables that you don’t use should also go to the chickens, since they need greens for the calcium (so they can make eggshells). Whatever the chickens don’t consume can be transferred to the composter later, along with any chicken manure that they produce. Being high in nitrogen, the manure will make an excellent “green” component for your compost.
